Al Aqsa Mosque Mourns Loss of Beloved Qari and Muezzin

Al Quds: Sheikh Yasser Qalibo, a respected qari and muezzin of Al Aqsa Mosque, passed away on December 12, leaving worshippers across Palestine in mourning. His voice shaped daily prayer life at the holy mosque for many years and held deep meaning for thousands of Palestinians.

Sheikh Yasser served Al Aqsa with consistency and discipline. He led the call to prayer and Quran recitation with a calm and humble tone. Worshippers recognised his voice during daily prayers, Ramadan nights, and major religious occasions. His presence formed part of the mosque’s rhythm despite restrictions, security pressure, and repeated disruptions around the compound.

Born and raised in a religious environment, Sheikh Yasser pursued Islamic studies at Al Azhar. He returned to Al Quds with a strong commitment to religious service. He took part in Quran recitation circles within Al Aqsa and remained closely connected to its courtyards, worshippers, and visitors. Many in the city viewed him as a spiritual anchor within the mosque.

Community members described Sheikh Yasser as a defender of Al Aqsa through steadfast presence rather than public statements. He maintained daily attendance at the mosque even during periods of heightened tension. His dedication strengthened communal morale and preserved religious continuity at one of Islam’s holiest sites.

Religious scholars and worshippers across Al Quds expressed grief following news of his death. Many highlighted his role in preserving Quranic tradition within Al Aqsa under difficult conditions. His passing marks the loss of a familiar voice and a trusted figure in Palestinian religious life.
