Mumbai : Amid growing communal tensions, organizations like Al-Khidmat continue to foster interfaith unity through social initiatives. For the past 16 years, this charitable institution has been organizing mass weddings for underprivileged couples, irrespective of their religious backgrounds.
On February 22, Al-Khidmat once again hosted a grand wedding ceremony at BMC Chawl, Juhu Lane, Andheri (West), Mumbai, uniting 12 Muslim couples and a Hindu Gujarati couple. The Hindu wedding was conducted by a priest following traditional rituals and the auspicious muhurat, showcasing the spirit of religious coexistence.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from the Hindu and Muslim communities, with guests praising Al-Khidmat’s efforts in strengthening interfaith bonds. Bollywood actress and Padma Shri awardee Raveena Tandon graced the occasion, blessing the newlyweds and gifting her bangles as a token of goodwill.

Al-Khidmat, under the leadership of Mohsin Haider, provided essential household items to the newlyweds, continuing its legacy of community service. Since its inception, the organization has facilitated the weddings of over 400 Muslim and 24 non-Muslim couples without external funding, relying solely on personal resources.
A grand reception followed at Grand HKB Lawn, Jogeshwari (West), attended by nearly 4,500 guests, celebrating the union of the couples. Sufiyan Haider, General Secretary of Al-Khidmat and Mumbai Youth Congress leader, reaffirmed their commitment to simple and modest weddings, urging the Muslim community to follow the Sunnah and eliminate extravagant dowry customs.

With its enduring mission of serving humanity, Al-Khidmat’s initiative remains a beacon of communal harmony, compassion, and social responsibility.
