Aligarh, June 21: Tensions remain high in Aligarh following the lynching of a man, identified as Fareed, in the Mamu Bhanja locality on Tuesday night. The incident has sparked communal unrest, prompting local authorities to heighten security measures.
Police have arrested six individuals in connection with the attack, which occurred when Fareed was returning home from work and was accused of theft by a mob. The assailants severely beat him before the police arrived, and Fareed succumbed to his injuries at Malkhan Singh Hospital shortly after.
Superintendent of Police M Shekhar Pathak confirmed the arrests were made based on CCTV footage, with additional suspects still being sought. “Further investigation is underway,” Pathak stated, adding that law enforcement is working diligently to maintain order and prevent further violence.
Additional District Magistrate Amit Kumar assured the public that the situation is under control. “We are keeping a close eye on the situation and have deployed an adequate number of police personnel in the affected area,” Kumar said.
In a call for peace, Aligarh’s chief mufti, Khalid Hameed, urged both Hindu and Muslim communities to remain calm and promote harmony. He emphasized the importance of a thorough police investigation free from political influence to ensure justice for the victim.

The lynching has drawn widespread condemnation, with many community leaders and citizens demanding swift and impartial action against those responsible.
