All India Unani Medical Congress Voices Concern Over Declining Ethics

New Delhi, May 18: A significant meeting of the All India Unani Tibbi Congress (AIUTC) Technical Wing was held under the chairmanship of Professor Fazlullah Qadri at Daryaganj here. During the meeting, Professor Qadri expressed deep concern over the increasing decline in ethics, particularly in the medical field.

Professor Qadri stated that while ethics has always held a high position, it is unfortunate that everything has become commercialized today, resulting in a lack of transparency. He warned that if the oath taken by Hippocrates in the medical profession is not adhered to, more issues will arise in the future.

At the meeting, community leader and thinker Mohammad Khalid Lakhnawi mentioned that the continuous efforts of AIUTC members contribute to the promotion and development of Unani medicine. However, some circulars from the central government’s AYUSH department often lead to misunderstandings, causing Unani medicine to be excluded from many central and state schemes. The recent circular from the Home Ministry regarding the Padma Shri awards invited applications from practitioners of Ayurveda, Yoga, Siddha, and Homeopathy, but Unani medicine was conspicuously absent, indicating a deliberate neglect of the Unani system.

Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan, Secretary-General of AIUTC, stated that the Technical Wing closely monitors the schemes of the Ministry of AYUSH and periodically sends letters to reclaim the rights of Unani medicine. He further commended the active members at the provincial level for fulfilling their moral responsibilities with sincerity and without any personal gain.

The meeting also saw contributions from Professor Akhtar Hussain Chaudhary, Professor Mohammad Aslam, Dr. Sikandar Hayat Siddiqui, Dr. Sabahatullah Amrohvi, and Dr. Ubaidullah Chaudhary. Mohammad Imran Kanouji extended a vote of thanks to all participants.
