The Allahabad High Court has directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Agra Police Commissioner to ensure the preservation of the 17th-century Hammam (public bath) in Agra. The order came from a bench comprising Justice Salil Kumar Rai and Justice Samit Gopal while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Chandrapal Singh Rana seeking protection for the historic structure, reports the Live Law.
The court emphasised the need for immediate steps to prevent any damage to the site, underscoring its historical and cultural significance. It instructed both the ASI and local authorities to deploy sufficient police personnel to secure the area.
This decision highlights the judiciary’s focus on safeguarding India’s heritage, ensuring that such ancient monuments are preserved for future generations.
