Allahabad High Court Declares Jamia Urdu Aligarh Degrees Invalid, Denies Appointment Rights to Holders

In a significant ruling, the Allahabad High Court has declared that degrees awarded by Jamia Urdu Aligarh are invalid, disqualifying holders from appointment as Urdu assistant teachers in Uttar Pradesh’s primary schools. The court found that the institution distributed degrees without conducting proper classes, violating educational standards, reported the Times of India.
Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery dismissed a petition filed by Azahar Ali and others, who had obtained Adib-E-Kamil degrees from Jamia Urdu and cleared the Uttar Pradesh Teachers Eligibility Test (UPTET) in 2013. The court noted that some petitioners completed both their Intermediate and Adib-E-Kamil exams within an implausibly short period, raising doubts about the legitimacy of the academic process.
The court emphasized that Jamia Urdu Aligarh is not recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and operates without regular classes. Consequently, degrees from this institution cannot be considered valid for government teaching positions.
This decision underscores the importance of proper educational standards and procedures in degree conferral, especially for roles in the public education sector.
