Allahabad High Court Holds Gender Sensitization Workshop for Family Court Counsellors in Lucknow

Lucknow: The High Court Committee for Sensitization of Family Court Matters organised a one day workshop on gender sensitization for Family Court Counsellors at the Judicial Training and Research Institute in Uttar Pradesh. Counsellors from districts across the state attended the programme. The training focused on understanding gender, identifying stereotypes and strengthening fair practices inside Family Courts.

The workshop aimed to build awareness of how gender shapes behaviour in professional and personal settings. Trainers encouraged participants to reflect on their own perceptions and biases. The programme underlined the role of counsellors as the first point of support for families facing matrimonial disputes.

Ms. Rekha Agnihotri, Director of the institute, led the inaugural session. She stated that gender sensitivity supports fair counselling and smooth resolution of disputes. She added that awareness of stereotypes and unconscious bias helps ensure dignity and equality in court processes.

Sessions were conducted by experts from the Gender Sensitization Cell at the University of Lucknow. Prof. Roli Misra explained how gender roles are formed through culture and institutions. She outlined the impact of stereotypes on decision making inside Family Courts. Participants discussed ways to recognise and challenge biased patterns.

Dr. Prashant Shukla spoke on gender in ancient India. He explained how patriarchal systems developed and continue to influence contemporary attitudes. He guided participants through an analysis of these structural issues.

Dr. Sonali Roy Choudhury discussed the nature of matrimonial disputes. She explained the legal remedies available under current statutes. She also offered practical guidance to counsellors handling sensitive cases.

The workshop ended with a valedictory session and the distribution of certificates.
