Altaf Hussain among Nine VCs appointed for Telangana Universities

Hyderabad: A Muslim is among the Vice Chancellors of nine state universities in Telangana appointed today. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, who is Chancellor of the State universities, appointed the Vice Chancellors.

Prof. Altaf Hussain has been appointed as Vice Chancellor for Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda.

Prof. Kumar Moglaram has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Osmania University, the oldest and prestigious university.

The Governor appointed Prof. GN Srinivas as Vice Chancellor for Palamuru University, Mahabubnagar; Prof. Pratap Reddy as Vice Chancellor for Kakatiya University, Warangal; Prof. Umesh Kumar as Vice Chancellor for Satavahana University, Karimnagar; and Prof. Nityananda Rao as Vice Chancellor for Telugu University, Hyderabad.

The other Vice Chancellors are Prof. Yadagiri Rao (Telangana University, Nizamabad), Prof. Aldas Janaiah (Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Hyderabad) and Prof. Raji Reddy (Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University).

Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers as in-charge Vice Chancellors of the state universities in May when Vice-Chancellors demitted their office.

The government had invited applications for the posts of regular Vice-Chancellors. A total of 1,382 applications were received from 312 teachers. Most of them applied for multiple universities.

Search Committees, comprising a representative each from the university concerned, the University Grants Commission and the State government went through the applications and recommended three names for each VC post. The Search Committees submitted the lists to the Governor, who then appointed Vice Chancellors.
