New Delhi: Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) has come under scrutiny after suspending a student for allegedly criticizing a speech by the university’s Vice-Chancellor. The action has sparked outrage among student groups, with the All India Students’ Association (AISA) calling for protests against what they describe as an attack on free speech and student rights.
The suspended student had reportedly questioned and criticized the VC’s remarks during a recent event, prompting disciplinary action from the university administration. According to sources, the university deemed the student’s behavior as “misconduct,” leading to their suspension.
In response, AISA has condemned the move, calling it an attempt to stifle dissent on campus. The student group has announced a series of protests, demanding the immediate revocation of the suspension and emphasizing the need for academic spaces to remain open to critical discussions and free expression.
“The university should be a place where students can question and debate ideas freely, not a space where they are punished for expressing their opinions,” an AISA representative stated.
This incident has reignited discussions on student rights and academic freedom in India, with many questioning whether universities should take disciplinary action against students for expressing dissenting views.
