Hyderabad, Aug 23: MLC and Chief Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily, Ameer Ali Khan, has pledged to work for the development of the Urdu language in the state and to resolve the issues surrounding the accreditation of Urdu journalists. He also committed to protecting Waqf lands across the state.
On Friday, prominent educationist and legal expert Mohammed Asad, senior Urdu journalist Hafeez Jawwad Ahmad, and freelance journalist M.D. Shafi Uz Zaman met Ameer Ali Khan at his office here to congratulate him on his recent swearing-in as MLC.
During the meeting, Mohammed Asad urged for a comprehensive survey in all districts to safeguard Waqf lands that are being encroached upon. He also highlighted the need to address several fundamental issues in the residential schools established for Muslim minority students, stating that the presence of non-minority students and staff undermines the very purpose of these schools. He suggested a thorough review of the situation.
Furthermore, Asad appealed to the government to provide loans to Muslim minorities, even under the Congress administration. Senior journalist Hafeez Jawwad Ahmad pointed out that although Urdu is the second official language in the state, no significant efforts have been made by the authorities to promote its development. He stressed the need for equal accreditation for journalists working in Urdu newspapers, alongside their counterparts in Telugu language newspapers.
In response to these demands, Ameer Ali Khan acknowledged the need for a long-term plan to tackle the growing unemployment among Muslim minorities and assured that he would work diligently to address these issues during his six-year tenure as MLC. As a mark of respect, Mohammed Asad, Hafeez Jawwad Ahmad, and M.D. Shafi Uz Zaman honoured Ameer Ali Khan with garlands and a shawl.
