Amendments to Waqf Act: A Move to Seize Muslim Properties, Says Maulana Khalid Nadwi Ghazipuri

New Delhi, August 9, 2024: Maulana Muhammad Khalid Nadwi Ghazipuri, the national president of United Muslims of India (UMI), has strongly criticized the Modi government’s decision to amend the Waqf Act. He described the move as an ill-intentioned effort aimed at oppressing Muslims and seizing their properties.

In his statement, Maulana Khalid Nadwi expressed concern over the current state of the Muslim community in India, emphasizing that instead of providing relief to Muslims, the government is attempting to usurp Waqf properties, further pushing them into poverty and despair. He remarked that the central government appears to be perpetually in “election mode,” targeting Muslims, rather than focusing on good governance and ensuring equal development and welfare for all citizens.

He further pointed out the contradiction between the government’s slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas” (Together with All, Development for All, Trust of All) and its treatment of minorities.

He urged the government not to target minorities, particularly Muslims, but rather to take sincere steps to restore their trust and uplift the weaker sections of society. He also called for the withdrawal of the proposed Waqf Act Amendment Bill and urged the government to focus on addressing the backwardness of Muslims.
