Agra: Aligarh Muslim University has introduced new guidelines for foreign students. The administration has instructed them to avoid posting or sharing online content that may hurt religious sentiments. The deputy proctor, Prof Hashmat Ali Khan, said the university has increased surveillance of online activity to ensure that students follow the rules.
The advisory also directed foreign students to seek permission from the proctor’s office before travelling outside the district. The international students’ cell released a notice reminding students to renew their passports and visas on time to avoid legal or administrative problems.
The university said the guidelines aim to support campus harmony and ensure proper documentation for all foreign students. In the notice, the deputy proctor asked students to report their travel plans and avoid social media activity that may cause harm to any community or individual. He added that completing passport and visa formalities before the expiry date is the responsibility of each student.
The advisory follows an incident last year when student leader Akhil Kaushal led a protest against Bangladeshi students who had allegedly posted objectionable comments online. The university later issued a lifetime admission ban on three Bangladeshi students involved in the case.
Reacting to the new rules, Kaushal said foreign students should not post content that goes against the nation or any religion. He stated that the advisory reflects the outcome of earlier protests.
