Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has once again demonstrated its academic strength and institutional excellence by securing the 188th position in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings (AUR) 2025. This marks a significant rise from last year’s rank of 193 and reflects AMU’s consistent upward trend, even in the face of intensifying competition among Asian universities.
The latest rankings, released by Times Higher Education – a globally respected ranking agency based in London – assessed 853 institutions from across Asia, compared to 739 in the previous year. With each edition, the competition has grown stronger, as the number of participating institutions has steadily increased: 551 institutions were ranked in 2021, followed by 616 in 2022, 669 in 2023, 739 in 2024, and now 853 in 2025.
Despite this rising competition, AMU’s performance has shown a notable improvement over the past five years. The University was placed in the 201-250 band in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 editions, before climbing to rank 193 in 2024 and now advancing further to 188 in the 2025 edition. The steady rise underlines AMU’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, research, and institutional development.
The Asia University Rankings offer a comprehensive evaluation of higher education institutions across the continent. With China dominating the top tier – retaining the first and second places and securing five of the top ten positions – AMU’s sustained advancement is a matter of pride for the entire AMU fraternity and reinforces its position as one of India’s leading universities in the Asian academic landscape.
