Aligarh: A team from the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, led by Prof. Mohd Azam Haseen, earned top honours at the IACTS Techno College CME 2025 held at Dr. RML Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. The conference is a premier annual event that brings together cardiothoracic surgeons from across India and abroad to deliberate on recent advancements in heart surgery.
In a significant achievement, Abu Fahad and Dr. Faiz Khan Yusufi won the first prize in the E-Poster category, while Dr. Hazique Jameel secured the second prize in the paper presentation category. The AMU team faced strong competition from renowned institutions such as KGMU, SGPGI, AIIMS, RML, and RN Tagore Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Kolkata.
Jahangeer Alam, a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Azam Haseen, also participated in the E-poster competition and shared his experience of undergoing heart surgery using India-made valves.
Prof. Mohd Azam Haseen delivered an invited talk on Minimally Invasive Mitral Valve Replacement (MVR), highlighting a new and advanced modality in heart surgery. Dr. Syed Shamayal Rabbani, Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, contributed as a chairperson during scientific sessions on complex congenital and aortic surgeries. Dr. Sabir Ali Khan, Clinical Perfusionist in the department, addressed the critical topic of Heparin resistance during the deliberations.
Prof. M H Raza, Principal and Chief Medical Superintendent, JNMC, congratulated the team and reiterated the administration’s intent to initiate an M.Ch. course in Cardiothoracic Surgery in the near future.
Prof. Amjad Ali Rizwi, Medical Superintendent, JNMC, also expressed satisfaction over the department’s achievements. He said that these accomplishments underscore the department’s growing reputation for academic excellence and leadership in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.
