AMU Court Recommends Three Names for Next VC

AMU Court has recommended Prof Faizaan Mustafa, Prof Naeema Gulrez, and Prof MU Rabbani from the five names earlier selected by the Executive Council’s meeting held on Monday last for the next Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University.

Dr Neyaz Ahmad, who is the member of Central Executive Committee of AMU Old Boys Association Aligarh, while talking to Radiance, confirmed that the 84 AMU Court members in a voting have selected these names which will be sent to the President of India.

Professor Faizan Mustafa, the current V-C of Chanakya National Law University in Patna, was the founding V-C of the National Law University, Orissa and Vice Chancellor of NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad.

Prof MU Rabbani, a cardiologist and senior professor in the Faculty of Life Sciences and Department of Biochemistry at AMU, was earlier Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at JN Medical College of AMU.

Dr Naima Gulrez, the incumbent officiating V-C’s spouse and Principal of AMU’s Women’s College, has previously held positions as a professor and chairperson in the Department of Psychology.

Earlier, 20 names were nominated and from them EC selected five names. The three names declared by the AMU Court will be sent to the President of India, who is Visitor of the University and out of these three names, the Visitor will appoint Vice Chancellor to replace Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, the present acting Vice Chancellor.
