Aligarh: The Patent Office, Government of India has granted patent to the idea of a “Mould Clamping Device for Manual Injection Moulding Machine,” an invention made by Mr. Shamshad Ali, Associate Professor, University Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University.
Mr Ali said that there are many commercially available mould clamping devices in the market and there are also several injection machines available to process polymers to produce various parts. Hand operated machines are also used to manufacture small products in small scale industries and different types of mould clamping devices are used in hand operated as well as power operated injection moulding machines, including the nut and screw type of clamping system which takes more time and labour.
He said that the objective of this invention is to provide a mould clamping device for a manual injection moulding machine that has a simple design and is easy to operate and reduces the time of closing and opening the mould.
He clarified that his mould clamping device comprises an eccentric and a follower to actuate the ram to open or close the mould. A compression spring is used to form a force-closed pair between the eccentric and the follower. The eccentric is rotated with the help of a handle to actuate the ram and the movable mould half is attached to one end of the ram through an adapter and plate and the stationary mould half is mounted on a stationary plate. The handle is rotated in the clockwise direction to close the mould and in the counter-clockwise direction to open the mould. He claimed that the device is very simple in design and easy to operate.
Prof Arshad Umar, Principal, University Polytechnic has congratulated Mr Ali for getting the ninth patent for his above invention.
