AMU Faculty Member Attends Workshop on Spinal Pain Management Procedures at University of Leeds

Aligarh: Dr. Hammad Usmani, Professor in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Consultant In-Charge, Pain Clinic at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), participated in an intensive Hands-On Cadaver Workshop on Interventional Spinal Pain Management Procedures at the University of Leeds, UK.

During the programme, Dr. Usmani gained hands-on expertise in the use of cutting-edge technology for pain management, particularly advanced radiofrequency techniques, intra-discal procedures and spinal cord stimulation that are increasingly being recognised for their effectiveness in treating chronic pain.

The sessions provided participants with hands-on exposure to cadaveric specimens, equipping them with greater precision in performing complex spinal procedures. Dr. Usmani mastered several advanced techniques for managing chronic pain conditions such as chronic back pain, lumbosacral and cervical radiculopathies, chronic neck pain, post-spinal surgery pain, and chronic headache.

Dr. Usmani noted that such global academic exercises are vital in keeping physicians updated with the latest innovations in interventional pain medicine. His participation not only enhances his expertise but also reflects AMU’s growing contribution to international medical research and training.

The intensive workshop, regarded as one of the leading academic platforms for advancing clinical skills in spinal interventions for pain management, brought together around 30 delegates from across the globe, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and skill enhancement in modern approaches to pain relief.
