AMU Faculty Members Participate in National Workshop on Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH)

Aligarh: Prof. Samina Khan, Presiding Officer of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), and Prof. Asiya Chaudhary, member of ICC from the Department of Commerce, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), participated in a one-day national workshop on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) at the workplace. The workshop was held at Sardar Patel University, Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), in collaboration with the Sunder Devi Education Skill and Training Foundation (SD-EST Foundation), under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The workshop aimed to build awareness and institutional competence in implementing the PoSH Act, 2013, a legislation enacted to protect women against sexual harassment at the workplace and ensure a safe and dignified working environment.

Representing AMU, both faculty members actively engaged in discussions addressing legal provisions, institutional responsibilities, redressal procedures, and challenges posed by evolving workspaces, including digital platforms. Interactive sessions led by legal experts and academicians also covered gender sensitisation and capacity-building strategies.

Prof. Samina Khan highlighted that such workshops enhance the competence and credibility of ICC members and reinforce trust in institutional mechanisms. She reaffirmed AMU’s zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment and the university’s commitment to a safe and inclusive academic environment.

Prof. Asiya Chaudhary shared AMU’s best practices and experiences in PoSH implementation, contributing to a meaningful exchange of ideas. The event concluded with the distribution of participation certificates and a pledge to continue training initiatives for ICCs nationwide.
