Aligarh: The Faculty of Law, in collaboration with the Department of Social Work, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a Legal Aid, Literacy, and Counselling programme at the Government School in Village Panjoopur, Aligarh. This initiative was undertaken as part of AMU’s commitment to Public Interest Lawyering and Clinical Legal Education, aiming to bridge the gap between legal education and grassroots awareness.
A major highlight of the event was a Nukkad Naatak (street play), along with legal counselling sessions that educated villagers and students about their fundamental rights and responsibilities. The interactive sessions were well received, reinforcing AMU’s dedication to social justice and legal empowerment.
This initiative marks another milestone in the Faculty of Law’s ongoing efforts to promote legal awareness and community engagement through experiential learning.
Commenting on the significance of the programme, AMU observed that Legal Aid, Para-Legal Assistance, and Legal Counselling Programmes add immense value to clinical legal education curricula.
Prof. Hashmat Ali Khan, In-Charge of the Legal Literacy Programme, emphasised that such initiatives ultimately lead to greater access to justice and legal socialism.
The programme reflects AMU’s continued efforts to empower rural communities with essential legal knowledge, fostering an informed and legally aware society.
