AMU Holds 2-day Int’l Conference on Sustainable Development in Air, Waste Management

Aligarh: The Department of Civil Engineering, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a two-day international conference on Sustainable Development in Air and Waste Management, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Brunei, Brunei, Darussalam.

Eminent speakers from India and abroad delivered talks on different themes of the conference, while 150 research papers were presented in six technical sessions (oral) and four poster sessions.

During the inaugural function, the Organising Secretary of the conference, Prof. Izharul Haq Farooqi, Chairperson of the Department welcomed the delegates and highlighted the achievements of the department.

Prof. Nisar Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology spoke about the importance of organising such events.

Prof. Mohammad Muzammil, Principal, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology highlighted the significance of sustainable development in the current environmental scenario.

Introducing the theme of the conference, Prof. Mohamed Hasnain Isa, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Research) Universiti Teknologi Brunei said this is the first conference after signing of MoU between the two universities.

The Guest of Honour, Prof. S. Mohn, Vice Chancellor, Puducherry Technical University, Puducherry highlighted the research activities of the department of civil engineering and praised the efforts of the organisers.

Another Guest of Honour, Prof. Anwar Hashsham, Michigan State University, USA highlighted the significance of the emerging issue of spread of antimicrobial resistance through consumption of contaminated water.

The Plenary talk was delivered by Prof. R Qasim, Professor Emeritus, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Texas at Arlington, USA through video conferencing.

Dr. Farrukh Basheer, Assistant Professor proposed a vote of thanks.

A number of eminent speakers from India and abroad, including Prof. Anwar Hashsham, MSU, USA; Prof. S Mohan, Vice Chancellor, Puducherry university; Prof. M. Hasnain Isa, Universiti Teknologi Brunei; Prof. Mohammad Jawed, IIT Guwahati; Prof. Mukesh Sharma, IIT, Kanpur; Prof. M. Absar Kazmi, IIT Roorkee; Dr. Jaya Rawat, General Manager, BPCL, Noida; Dr. Anad Madhukar, TERI Delhi and Prof. Anwar Khursheed, King Saud University, KSA delivered talks on different themes of the conference.

Around 200 delegates attended the two-day event.
