AMU Hosts Lecture on Evidence-Based Drug Development in Unani Medicine

Aligarh: “Scientific validation is essential for integrating Unani medicine into modern healthcare. By grounding traditional knowledge in credible evidence, we can enhance its global acceptance and impact,” said Prof. Mohammad Husain, the keynote speaker at an extension lecture on “Evidence-Based Drug Development from Medicinal Plants,” organised by the Department of Ilmul Advia, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University.

Prof. Husain, from Department of Biotechnology, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, emphasised the need for rigorous research and clinical validation of Unani medicines to establish their efficacy and safety. He discussed the importance of reliable sources of evidence and urged scholars to uphold Unani principles while integrating scientific advancements.

In his presidential remarks, Prof. Saleem Javed, Chairman, Department of Biochemistry (Life Sciences), AMU, highlighted the rich heritage of Unani medicine and stressed the importance of drug standardisation, clinical trials, and pharmacological studies in proving its benefits.

Prof. S.M. Safdar Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, commended the Department of Ilmul Advia for its contributions to Unani healthcare and elaborated on its distinctive role in advancing the field nationwide.

Dr. Abdur Rauf, Chairman, Department of Ilmul Advia, welcomed the keynote speaker and emphasised the significance of the lecture. He discussed the department’s ongoing research projects and contributions to Unani medicine.

Dr. Sumbul Rehman introduced the guest speaker, while Dr. Nazish Siddiqui delivered the vote of thanks.
