Aligarh: The Department of Islamic Studies at Aligarh Muslim University held a condolence meeting to honour Dr Mohammad Manzoor Alam, eminent Islamic scholar and Founder-Director of the Institute of Objective Studies. Faculty members, researchers, students and social activists attended the gathering to pay tribute to his contributions to academia and society.
Prof. Ziauddin Falahi conducted the proceedings. He highlighted Dr Alam’s commitment to Islamic scholarship, youth mentoring and institution-building. Prof. Falahi described him as a visionary thinker whose intellectual legacy would inspire future generations. He noted Dr Alam combined deep scholarship with practical engagement, making his work relevant to academic circles and policy discourse.
Senior faculty members shared reflections on Dr Alam’s life and work. Prof. Kafeel Ahmad Qasmi, Prof. Abu Sufyan Islahi, Prof. Akbar Hussain, Prof. Mohammad Tariq, Prof. Abdul Majid Khan, Prof. Parvez Nazir, Prof. Obaidullah Fahad and Prof. Saud Alam Qasmi spoke about his contributions to research, institution-building and interfaith dialogue. Social activist Dr Masood Ahmad recalled Dr Alam’s role in promoting policy-oriented research and addressing challenges faced by the Muslim community in India and abroad.
Prof. Adam Malik Khan, Head of the Department of Islamic Studies, described Dr Alam as a visionary scholar and compassionate human being. He said Dr Alam created a unique platform for interdisciplinary research and critical thinking through the Institute of Objective Studies. Prof. Khan termed his demise an irreparable loss to the academic world, noting his ideas and institutions would continue to guide scholars.
The meeting concluded with a special prayer led by Prof. Faizan Beg, Chairman of the Department of Arabic. He prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family.
