AMU Malappuram Centre’s Law students discuss Waqf Amendment Bill

Aligarh, Sep 9: The law students at the Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Centre, Kerala, held a discussion on “Unveiling the Waqf Amendment Bill: Navigating Changes and its Impacts,” with faculty members of the Law Section at the centre, sharing their views and imparting knowledge to the students on the topic of general public interest.

In his inaugural address, Director of the Centre, Dr. Faisal K.P. underscored the importance of understanding the legal framework surrounding Waqf properties in India and the implications of the proposed amendments.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Naseema P.K. provided a comprehensive analysis of the benefits and pitfalls of Waqf Amendment Bill, in the light of the Constitution.

Dr. Amir Yusuf discussed the topic highlighting the constitutional position of the Bill and presented a critical appraisal of the topic.

The law students – Rushil Rumaysah Fatima Chowdhury, Ifrah Fatima, Riza Khan and Taqui Hyder, with the help of PowerPoint presentations, covered various aspects of Waqf in India, including the basics of Waqf law, the idea of Waqf in Islam, the benefits of the amendment act and its benefits.

Earlier, welcoming the speakers, the Law Section Coordinator, Mr. Shahnawaz Ahmad Malik provided an introduction to the Waqf Amendment Bill, sharing his insight into the topic. He also analyzed the proposed amendments to the law addressing the objections being discussed in the mainstream media.

It may be noted that the law students of the Centre have launched a legal awareness discussion series under which lectures and discussions will be held to familiarize law students with the contemporary legal issues and help them get acquainted with the necessary information about the concerned topic.
