Aligarh: In a significant effort to combat tobacco and gutkha addiction, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a powerful street play to highlight the health hazards linked to these substances.
Chief Guest Prof. Abid Ali Khan, Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) commended the initiative, urging citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles and support de-addiction efforts. The event was coordinated by Dr. Mohammad Mohsin Khan, whose leadership ensured impactful community engagement.

Programme Officers Dr. Abdullah Jabbar and Nahid Akbari efficiently managed the event’s logistics and public outreach. The programme was also attended by Dr. Mansoor Alam Siddiqui, Imran Khan, Dr. Furqan, Naeem Ahmed, and Dr. Asif, who lent support in spreading anti-addiction message.
The street play, performed by a team of artists, vividly depicted the severe health consequences of tobacco and gutkha use, including cancer, cardiovascular issues, and respiratory diseases. It also addressed the social and economic toll of addiction, drawing on statistics from the National Tobacco Control Programme.
A large audience attended the event, with many pledging to promote awareness in their communities.
