Aligarh — Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Chairman of the Department of Pharmacology at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), recently returned from a distinguished academic tour to China, where he represented India on multiple prestigious platforms focused on traditional medicine and international academic collaboration.
Prof. Rahman’s visit commenced on May 21, 2025, with a significant delegation to Xi’an Medical University. There, he participated in in-depth discussions on collaborative research, student and faculty exchange programmes, and integration of pharmacological sciences with traditional medicine systems.
He later took part in the Silk Road International Conference on Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research, and Application, held at the Xi’an Qujiang International Conference Centre and hosted by Xidian University. The conference brought together academic leaders from across the world to strengthen inter-university cooperation and knowledge sharing.
On May 24, Prof. Rahman delivered a keynote address at the Scientific Forum on Traditional Medicine at Xi’an International University. His lecture, titled “The Great Silk Road: Medicine and Traditions,” emphasized India’s rich history of medical knowledge exchange through the ancient Silk Road, highlighting the enduring legacy of Ayurveda and Unani medicine.
Further contributing to global academic dialogue, he addressed the 5th International Academic Conference on the Inheritance, Innovation, and Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine. His insights received high appreciation from scholars and practitioners engaged in the preservation and advancement of traditional healing systems.
The academic visit concluded with an invited lecture at the Qingdao Yao Medicine Research Institute, where Prof. Rahman presented India’s traditional medical frameworks in a session organized by the Chinese Ethnomedicine Organisation. He spoke extensively about the relevance and scientific foundation of Ayurveda and Unani, underscoring their potential in modern integrative healthcare.
This international engagement highlights AMU’s growing footprint in global academic forums and its commitment to advancing traditional and modern medical sciences through research, education, and cross-border collaboration.
