Aligarh: Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Chairman, Department of Pharmacology, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, participated as a lead expert in a pivotal virtual meeting of the South-East Asia Regulatory Network (SEARN), convened by the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for South-East Asia.
Prof. Rahman made a detailed presentation outlining the department’s significant achievements in the field of pharmacovigilance, with a special focus on its over three-decade-long commitment to advancing drug safety. The high-level session brought together senior representatives from healthcare regulatory bodies and professional organisations across the region. Chaired by Adrien Inoubli of SEARN, the meeting featured active deliberations from members of Working Group 3 (WG3), with a core emphasis on strengthening and expanding pharmacovigilance reporting systems throughout South-East Asia.
In his capacity as the National Secretary of the Society of Pharmacovigilance (India) and as Coordinator of AMC-PvPI and MDMC-MvPI under the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, Government of India, Prof. Rahman underscored the importance of sustained regional collaboration to ensure the safe use of medicines.
