AMU Research Scholars Shine on Global Academic Platforms

Aligarh: The K.A. Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), celebrated the international achievements of two of its research scholars, underscoring the Centre’s growing prominence in global Qur’anic and Islamic scholarship.

Mr. Syed Mohammad Mobashshir, a research scholar at the Centre, has been awarded a prestigious scholarship to pursue an advanced course in Islamic Cosmology under the mentorship of renowned Islamic philosopher Prof. Seyyed Hossein Nasr. The programme is hosted by the Tokat Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies, Türkiye, an institution known for promoting rigorous intellectual inquiry into Islamic traditions.

Mr. Mobashshir’s doctoral research, titled “The Qur’anic Environmental Ethics: A Framework for Sustainable Development in the 21st Century,” integrates Islamic ethical principles with contemporary ecological concerns, offering a Qur’an-based model for sustainability and environmental stewardship.

In another notable achievement, Ms. Adiva Khatoon, also a research scholar at the Centre, has been selected to present her paper at the 24th Annual International Conference on Islam, Science, and Society (AICIS+) 2025 in Indonesia. Her paper, “Gendered Hermeneutics and Epistemic Justice: A Critical Analysis of Women Translators of the Qur’an in English,” explores issues of interpretive authority and the contributions of female scholars in Qur’anic translation and hermeneutics.

Ms. Khatoon’s doctoral work, “Women Translators of the Qur’an in English: A Critical Study,” examines how female translators are reshaping the interpretive landscape of Qur’anic scholarship, with broader implications for gender and epistemic justice.

Both scholars were felicitated by Prof. Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Honorary Director of the K.A. Nizami Centre, who lauded their achievements as a testament to the Centre’s commitment to innovative, interdisciplinary, and globally engaged Qur’anic research.

These milestones not only mark personal academic excellence but also reaffirm the Centre’s role as a leading institution in promoting scholarly dialogue at the crossroads of Qur’anic studies, environmental ethics, gender studies, and Islamic philosophy.
