Sharjah: An Aligarh Muslim University alumni group in the UAE marked the two hundred eighth birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan with a large gathering at Hotel Holiday International in Sharjah. More than eight hundred alumni attended the event. They celebrated the legacy of AMU’s founder and renewed their commitment to educational advancement and social progress.
The UAE hosts a strong Indian community and has deep economic ties with India. Bilateral trade reached eighty three point seven billion dollars in FY 2023 to 24, compared to forty three point three billion dollars three years earlier. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, signed in 2022, strengthened this growth. Frequent high level visits helped build the partnership. The event’s organisers highlighted this history and the support the UAE leadership has extended to India and AMU.
ZI Sherwani, Founder and CEO of Cordova Group of Companies, served as Chief Guest. He urged alumni to invest in innovation, technology and updated learning tools. He encouraged the community to strengthen Sir Syed’s vision. He said leadership in the modern world requires new skills and wider imagination. He expressed support for efforts to establish new institutes of science and technology under the AMU Alumni Association.
Speakers stressed the role of education in collective progress. They noted Sir Syed’s message of reform and intellectual growth. They said AMU alumni in the UAE continue to serve as an active bridge between India and the Gulf. The event closed with a pledge to expand educational opportunities and support future generations.
