Aligarh: Students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) along with local social activists held a candlelight march on Friday night to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent plane crash in Ahmedabad. The march began from the AMU campus and concluded at Ambedkar Park, drawing a large number of students and local residents, reported the Dainik Bhaskar.
Participants held lit candles in their hands and observed a two-minute silence upon reaching Ambedkar Park to honor the deceased.
The march was organized as an expression of solidarity and grief following the tragic plane crash that occurred on June 12. An Air India flight bound for London crashed in the Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad. Out of the 242 people on board, only one person survived the devastating accident.
The aircraft was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, including 169 Indians, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese nationals, and 1 Canadian. The plane crashed into a medical college hostel, causing a massive fire and leading to further casualties among students and medical staff. Moments before the crash, the pilot had issued an emergency “Mayday” call.
Participants of the candlelight march prayed that such a tragic incident never happens again and that the families of the victims are granted strength to endure their loss.
