Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor, Professor Naima Khatoon, has expressed profound sorrow over the demise of Maulana Gulam Muhammed Vastanvi, a distinguished Islamic scholar and educationist, who passed away on May 4 at the age of 75.
Remembering his immense contributions, Prof. Khatoon said, “Maulana Vastanvi, the founder and rector of Jamia Islamia Ishaatul-Uloom in Akkalkuwa, Maharashtra, was a visionary leader and institution builder. His efforts led to the establishment of numerous specialised colleges, including those in medicine, pharmacy, engineering, law, and teacher education. His passing marks a significant loss for the nation.”
She praised his exceptional leadership and foresight in creating and managing high-quality educational institutions. “On behalf of the AMU community, I extend heartfelt condolences to his family and pray to the Almighty for his forgiveness and eternal reward for the many good deeds he performed,” she added.
The Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammad Mohsin Khan also paid his heartfelt condolences saying, “Maulana Vastanvi’s lifelong mission to uplift underprivileged communities through the establishment of hospitals, schools, colleges, and both boys’ and girls’ boarding madrasas improved access to education and healthcare. This will always remain an inspiration for all of us. I pray to Allah for the perfect reward for his services to humanity.”
