AMU’s Department of History Launches Undergraduate Club ‘Tarikh Yafta’

Aligarh: The Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) inaugurated its undergraduate club, Tarikh Yafta, through a ceremony titled Aagaz-e-Safar. The event brought together faculty, students, and guests to celebrate the club’s mission of fostering historical inquiry and academic excellence.

Dr. Aneesa Iqbal, Coordinator of the club, described Tarikh Yafta as a platform for intellectual growth and urged students to actively participate.

Prof. Hassan Imam, Chairperson of the department, commended the initiative and highlighted the transformative role of education, drawing parallel between Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s efforts for Muslim education and Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s reforms for Hindu society through specific societies.

Prof. Rashmi Upadhyay underscored the symbiotic relationship between teachers and students in education, linking it to peace, respect, and societal harmony. Citing Hindu scriptures and English poetry, she advocated for regular competitions and activities to nurture curiosity and resilience.

Prof. Parvez Nazir stressed the importance of preserving “scientific and objective history” and encouraged collectivism within the club. Drawing from his teaching experiences, he advised students to let “desires outweigh fears” and concluded with motivational verses by Allama Iqbal.

The Training and Placement Officer, AMU, Mr. Saad Hameed emphasised the importance of student clubs in career development and skill-building.

The event featured the unveiling of the club’s logo by Mr. Imdad ul Kareem, followed by an address from club secretary Mr. Danish Aslam, who expressed gratitude to faculty and staff.
