Aligarh: The Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University, made a strong mark at the 11th International Conference on Public Health (ICOPH 2025), held from August 7-9 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event, organised by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), brought together over 450 delegates from 30 countries.

Prof. Saira Mehnaz, Department of Community Medicine, was one of only four plenary speakers at the conference, representing India alongside experts from Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa. Drawing on her department’s research, she highlighted how AI tools such as natural language processing and adaptive learning systems can address pedagogical challenges and promote equitable, human-centred public health training.
Other faculty members and students from the department also presented research on pressing community health issues. Dr. Sameena Ahmad (Assistant Professor) spoke on screen-based media and communication in toddlers with autism. Dr Danish Kamal (Senior Resident), supervised by Dr. Tabassum Nawab, presented a study on parental behaviour and adolescent attitudes towards substance abuse, earning the Best Presenter Award.
MD students shared research on diverse topics: healthcare utilisation among migrant mothers and children (Dr. Tijo Rahim), socio-cultural factors in family planning decision-making (Dr. Mohd Amir), high-risk pregnancies (Dr. Subhash Kumar), intimate partner violence among migrant women (Dr. Shafi Warisha Javed) and job satisfaction among mobile health workers under RBSK (Dr. Asma Ashraf).
