AMU’s J.N. Medical College Hosts Awareness Programme on Cervical Cancer

Aligarh: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University conducted competitive events marking the “WHO – Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action” to raise awareness about cervical cancer and its prevention.

In the Quiz competition, 35 PG residents from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Radiotherapy, Pathology, Community Medicine and Surgery participated on an online platform, Kahoot.

The team of Dr. K. Tasleem Banu, Dr. Pankhuri Gupta, Dr. Nilofar Khan, Dr. Rohit S. Raju and Dr. V. Loganathan (all from the Department of OBGYN) won the first prize, while the team comprising Dr Sameeha Siddiqui, Dr Arshida P, Dr Areeba Aziz and Dr Rahul Upadhyay (all from Radiotherapy) got the second prize and the team comprising Dr Aditi Agrawal, Dr Tanisha Gupta, Dr Samaresh Swain and Dr Shamshad Alam (all from Radiotherapy) received the third prize.

In the Poster competition, the first prize went to the team of Umme Kulsum Habib (BSc Paramedical), Maryam Firoz (BSc Paramedical) and Laina Mushir (BSc Nursing) while Dr Aditi Agrawal (Radiotherapy) and Charli Agarwal (B.Sc. Nursing) got the second and third prizes respectively.

The Quiz competition was judged by Dr. Nazia Ishrat, Dr. Roshan Perween and Dr Mariyam Faruqi, while the posters were judged by Prof Nishat Akhtar, Prof Nasreen Noor and Dr. Deeba Khanam.

The winners were felicitated with prizes and certificates while all the participants were given certificates of participation.

Prof Seema Hakim, Dr. Roshan Perween and Dr. Mariyam Faruqui delivered health talks to raise awareness about cervical cancer symptoms, screening and prevention and vaccination.

Prof Zehra Mohsin, Chairperson of the department, congratulated the winners and urged the students to help spread awareness about the cervical cancer and the ways to prevent it from occurring.

The programme was attended by Prof Tamkeen Khan, Prof Shaheen, Prof Shazia Parveen, Dr Dalia Rafat and Dr. Bushra Fatima, among others.
