Aligarh: Syedna Taher Saifuddin (STS) School (popularly known as Minto Circle) Aligarh Muslim University has won the three-day Inter School Volleyball District-Level Tournament organised by the AMU ABK High School as part of Sir Syed Day celebrations.
The final match was played between AMU ABK High School and STS School, and in a nail-biting competition, STS School team defeated AMU ABK High School, which had to settle for the Runner-up trophy.
The chief guest, Prof. Asfar Ali Khan, Director, Directorate of School Education, AMU, presented trophies to the winners and the runner-up teams, while all the members of these teams received certificates with mementos and the rest of the participants were given the certificates of participation.
In his address, Prof. Khan urged the players to always participate in such competitive events with sportsman spirit and take these opportunities as learning exercises. He also urged them to reduce screen time and enhance their physical activities while balancing studies with sports activities.
Prof. Qudsia Tahseen, Deputy Director, DSE and Dr. Jameel Ahmad, Department of Pharmacology and President of Gymkhana Club were the guests of honour, while Aziza Rizvi, former Assistant Director, Physical Education Department, Sayed Tanveer Nabi, Principal RMPS City School, Faisal Nafees, Principal, STS School and Ikram Warsi, Amar Ujala attended the prize distribution ceremony as special guests.
Aziza Rizvi highlighted the importance of regular practice and self-resilience. Earlier, the Principal of ABK High School welcomed the guests and felicitated them with badges, mementoes and saplings. She urged the students to imbibe the values that are integral part of games like discipline, time management, cooperation, brotherhood and respect for each other.
The coordinators of the event, Rais Ahmad and Nida Usmani said a total of 8 schools from Aligarh participated in the tournament. Ghausia Iqbal, Cultural Coordinator, conducted the programme, whereas Farah Najm extended a vote of thanks. Alqa Zafar provided computer assistance and Asif Khan looked after the overall arrangement of the programme.
