Anwar Urges Muslim Nations to Strengthen Economic Ties, Empower Youth and Embrace Innovation

KAZAN (Tatarstan) — Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Muslim-majority nations to come together to fortify their economic foundations, particularly through the halal industry, and empower their youth while embracing innovation and digital transformation, reported the Malay Mail.

Delivering a keynote address at the Plenary Session of the 16th International Economic Forum “Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum 2025,” Anwar highlighted the need for collective action to enhance the US$3 trillion halal market and formalise cooperation across the Islamic world—from the Gulf to Africa and Asia.

Addressing a diverse audience of over 2,500 participants from more than 100 countries, Anwar advocated for a broader vision of Islamic finance—one that goes beyond simply avoiding interest (riba) to include innovative and inclusive economic solutions for both Muslims and non-Muslims.

He also stressed the importance of keeping pace with global shifts such as energy transition and digitalisation, saying that such advancements must be integrated with the values and character exemplified by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

“Family values are essential,” he said, adding that the younger generation must be inspired to lead with integrity and purpose.

Referring to discussions held earlier in the day, Anwar urged scholars, intellectuals, and leaders to prioritize youth engagement. “We must allow young boys and girls to reflect, voice their opinions, and be actively involved in shaping policies that affect their future,” he said.

Anwar’s call comes at a critical juncture, as Muslim nations seek to navigate rapid global changes while remaining rooted in core Islamic principles.
