New Delhi, April 2026: The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has appreciated the efforts of the Delhi Police and the district administration for ensuring peace and security in Uttam Nagar during recent religious festivities, including Eid al-Fitr, Ram Navami, and Hanuman Jayanti.
The commendation follows directions issued by the Delhi High Court on March 19, 2026, in a petition filed by APCR (W.P.(CRL)-896/2026), instructing authorities to take necessary steps to maintain law and order and facilitate peaceful celebrations in the area.
According to APCR, the Delhi Police effectively implemented the court’s directives by engaging local stakeholders, forming peace committees, conducting regular flag marches, and deploying adequate security personnel to deter anti-social elements.
The organisation highlighted a potentially volatile situation on March 21, the first day of Eid al-Fitr, when large groups gathered near JJ Colony and the Uttam Nagar East Metro station, allegedly attempting to incite unrest. However, swift intervention by the police, including detentions of individuals suspected of instigation, prevented escalation and ensured the situation remained under control.
APCR noted that many individuals in the gathering appeared to have come from outside Uttam Nagar, possibly in response to calls to disrupt Eid celebrations. In contrast, local residents across communities cooperated with authorities, contributing significantly to maintaining peace. The police also took preventive measures to restrict the entry of disruptive elements into the locality.
Security arrangements remained in place during subsequent celebrations of Ram Navami on March 26 and Hanuman Jayanti on April 2. Religious processions on both occasions were conducted peacefully, with adherence to law and coordination among all stakeholders.
APCR stated that both the High Court’s intervention and the police response have helped restore public confidence and foster communal harmony in Uttam Nagar. The organisation expressed hope that such coordinated measures could serve as a model for handling sensitive situations in other parts of the country.
APCR also urged the Delhi Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged involvement of external elements who attempted to create communal tensions in the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr.
