APCR Ensures Release of Kashmiri Vendors Arrested in Lucknow

Lucknow, Dec. 19: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation on Sunday carried out an anti-encroachment drive at Samta Mulak Chauraha in Gomti Nagar. The area had been declared a no-vending zone, prompting municipal authorities to remove encroachment. A group of Kashmiri vendors had been selling dry fruits at the location for several years. Nagar Nigam discarded their goods. This action reportedly led to clashes between the vendors and Nagar Nigam officials.

In the aftermath, the police arrested seven individuals identified as Faizan Mohammad, Yawar Ahmed, Waseem Ahmed, Ashiq Hussain, Rauf Nazeer, Amir Ahmed, and Idrees Ahmed. All of them are residents of Kulgam, Kashmir, and were arrested under Section 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

In a viral video on social media, a policeman can be seen slapping a vendor while they rounded up other sellers and bundled them in a police van.

Swift intervention by Syed Mehfuzurrahman Faizy, Vice President of APCR UP Chapter facilitated the release of all seven individuals on a personal bond on Monday. The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) also aided them in the retrieval of their confiscated goods from the police.

APCR remains steadfast in its commitment to justice and working for a fair society and equitable society.
