APCR Secures Bail for Sikh Youth in High-Profile UAPA Case

New Delhi, Sep 4: The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has successfully secured bail for Raj Kumar, also known as Lovepreet, from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Lovepreet, a Sikh youth, gained prominence for his dedicated Langar services during the anti-CAA protests at Shaheen Bagh.

Lovepreet was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell on June 18, 2020, under charges of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act. He was initially held in Mandoli Jail, New Delhi, before being transferred to a jail in Punjab following his booking by the Punjab Police on June 28, 2020.

The APCR’s legal team, led by Advocates Arjun Sheoran and Anjali Sheoran, successfully argued the case, resulting in the granting of bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the matter titled Raj Kumar @ Lovepreet @ Lovely vs. State of Punjab (FIR No. 144 dated 28.06.2020).

This legal victory is seen as a significant step towards upholding civil rights and providing justice to those wrongfully accused under stringent laws like the UAPA.
