Arab-Islamic Summit Condemns ‘Bloodthirsty’ Israel, Considers NATO-Style Alliance

Doha: An emergency summit of Arab League and members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Doha condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes as “blatant,” “cowardly,” and “treacherous.” The strikes, which targeted Hamas leaders’ residential quarters, sparked calls for regional solidarity and a strengthened alliance among Arab-Islamic nations., reported the NDTV.

The airstrikes reportedly killed at least six people, including a member of Qatar’s Interior Ministry. Among the dead were Khalil al-Hayya, a Palestinian legislative council member; his son, Humam; and his office director, Jihad Labad.

Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar said the attack violated international law and Qatar’s sovereignty. He questioned Israel’s rationale, given that negotiations over a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange involving Egypt and the United States were already underway.

Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani proposed a NATO-style alliance among Arab states, suggesting that an attack on any member should be considered an attack on all. He also called for a joint Arab-Islamic committee to present their position at international forums like the UN Security Council, General Assembly, and European Union.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan supported the move, describing Israeli actions as driven by a “greedy, bloodthirsty mentality.” He also urged economic sanctions against Israel, pointing to their effectiveness in past international disputes.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas called on the international community to act, emphasizing the need for accountability for Israel’s repeated assaults on Palestinian lands and peoples. He urged concrete steps to prevent further violations.
