New Delhi: The political atmosphere in the New Delhi Assembly constituency heated up on Saturday as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers of attacking during his campaign. The BJP, however, dismissed the allegations and countered with claims of misconduct by Kejriwal’s team, multiple reports said on Saturday.
AAP shared a video on social media, claiming BJP supporters hurled bricks and stones at Kejriwal’s vehicle to intimidate him and disrupt his campaign. AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar condemned the incident, stating, “BJP goons attacked Kejriwal with stones. This is an attempt to sabotage peaceful elections.” She demanded immediate action from the Election Commission.
However, Parvesh Verma, BJP’s candidate from the New Delhi constituency, denied AAP’s accusations, calling them “baseless.” He alleged that during Kejriwal’s campaign, his car injured three local youths – Vishal, Abhishek, and Rohit – who were trying to question him about unemployment. Verma claimed, “Kejriwal’s convoy deliberately ran over these youths. This is an attempt to murder.”
The BJP alleged that the injured youths, now hospitalised, were victims of AAP’s recklessness, and Verma announced plans to file a case against Kejriwal for the alleged assault.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh retaliated, accusing the BJP of resorting to “hooliganism” to win elections. He stated, “The BJP is trying to scare our leaders, but the people of Delhi will respond at the ballot box.”
Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit condemned the violence but criticised both AAP and BJP for neglecting core public issues. “Violence has no place in democracy. I hope the police will investigate thoroughly,” he said.
With the New Delhi Assembly elections approaching, the incident has added fuel to the already charged political climate. The Election Commission has yet to verify the claims from both sides. As tensions rise, voters await clarity on the incident while parties continue their war of words.
