Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has condemned the murder of former Maharashtra Minister and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique.
The Hyderabad MP has also condoled the death of former Delhi University professor and human rights activist G.N. Saibaba.
“Truly devastating news of two deaths on the same day,” tweeted Asaduddin Owaisi.
“Baba Siddique’s murder is highly condemnable. It reflects the deteriorating state of law & order in Maharashtra. May Allah grant him maghfirah. My condolences to his family, friends & colleagues,” wrote the AIMIM chief.
Baba Siddique was shot dead allegedly by three men in Mumbai’s Bandra area on the night of Saturday, October 12. He was killed outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Neelamnagar.
Mumbai police have arrested two of the assailants and were on the lookout for the third accused in the case.
The crime branch, which took over the probe, is investigating the angles of business rivalry, contract killing, and threat over a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project.
Owaisi also condoled the death of Professor Saibaba. “Prof. Saibaba’s death is also deeply concerning. His death was also partly a result of the UAPA that allows cops to keep you in prison for lengthy periods without any evidence,” said Owaisi.
Saibaba, who spent a decade in prison over alleged Maoist links before being acquitted earlier this year, passed away on Saturday, October 12.
The 57-year-old died following post-operative complications after undergoing surgery for gallbladder stones. The wheelchair-bound Saibaba had been undergoing treatment at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, where he was admitted 10 days ago due to ill health.
