Hyderabad: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP spokespersons for accusing Indian Muslims of sexism while pointing to the poor sex ratio in BJP-ruled states, reports the Siyasat.
Citing a report, Owaisi highlighted Haryana, under BJP rule for over a decade, as having the country’s lowest sex ratio in 2024, with only 910 girls born per 1,000 boys. He expressed concern over the societal mindset leading to female foeticide, stating, “Men are killing over meat but feel nothing for our daughters.”
Owaisi noted that the Muslim community in India records one of the highest sex ratios, attributing this to Islamic teachings that prohibit female foeticide. According to PEW research, of the 9 million female foeticides recorded between 2000 and 2019, 86.7% were by Hindus, 4.9% by Sikhs, and 6.6% by Muslims.
He also criticised TV news channels for perpetuating Islamophobic narratives under the guise of “modernising Muslims.”
Separately, Owaisi condemned the Uttar Pradesh government for failing to act in a recent lynching case where a Muslim man was killed in Moradabad over allegations of cow slaughter.
In a scathing statement, Owaisi called on the police to uphold justice and not shield the perpetrators. “Killing a person is still a crime in India, even if the victim is Muslim. Uttar Pradesh is still a part of India,” he said, directly targeting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s administration.
Addressing the police on X, he remarked, “You are the police, not a gang of criminals disguised as cow protectors. Do justice.”
