Hyderabad: Hyderabad MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly criticised Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for nominating US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, reported the Siasat.
Taking to social media platform X, Owaisi expressed his outrage, saying, “These are the United States of Global Mischief. One uses Zionism to kill innocents, and another uses takfirism. Both are propped up by USA.” His comment was a sharp rebuke of the support extended by both leaders—Netanyahu and Munir—towards Trump’s nomination.
“Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir and Israeli PM Netanyahu both believe that Donald Trump should receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Munir is a key exporter of terrorism to India, and Netanyahu is a fugitive of the International Criminal Court who has openly committed genocide against Palestinians,” Owaisi stated.
The statement came after Netanyahu formally nominated Donald Trump for the prestigious prize. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office also shared the letter of nomination on its official X account. Netanyahu praised Trump for his “steadfast and exceptional dedication to promoting peace, stability and security around the world,” particularly citing Trump’s role in reshaping the Middle East.
Netanyahu wrote, “I wish to submit the nomination of the Honourable Donald Trump, the 45th and 47th President of the United States, for the Nobel Peace Prize.” He credited Trump with “dramatic changes” in the region, including the expansion of peace agreements and normalization efforts.
However, critics argue that Trump’s foreign policy actions have led to escalations rather than peace. Notably, during the recent Iran-Israel conflict in June, Trump authorized targeted US airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities—Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan—under “Operation Midnight Hammer.” This was followed by Iran’s retaliatory strike, “Operation Annunciation of Victory,” which targeted the US military’s Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
Despite escalating tensions, a temporary ceasefire was eventually reached. During the truce, Iran also launched over a dozen missiles into Israeli territory. Trump, while condemning both sides, urged Netanyahu to show restraint and avoid further conflict.
Owaisi’s criticism highlights a larger debate over the Nobel nomination process and the moral implications of rewarding global leaders whose policies have contributed to widespread suffering and unrest.
