Assam’s Ruhul Amin Hazarika Joins Cancer Detection Research Team in Italy

In a remarkable journey from a small village in Assam to a leading global research platform, Dr. Ruhul Amin Hazarika has been appointed as a research scientist at the prestigious University of Calabria, Italy. He will be working on the development of artificial intelligence-based technologies for early cancer detection and diagnosis, alongside contributing to academic teaching, reported the Awaaz.
Hailing from Chenibari village in Darang district, Dr. Hazarika is the son of Bashiruddin Ahmed Hazarika and Rabia Khatun. He completed his primary education from local Assamese-medium government schools and later moved to Mangaldoi for higher studies. After completing his 12th standard in Science from Mangaldoi Government Higher Secondary School, he pursued his B.Tech, M.Tech, and PhD from North Eastern Hills University (NEHU), Shillong.
His dedication and academic brilliance paved the way to this international achievement, marking a proud moment for Assam and India. At the University of Calabria, Dr. Hazarika will focus on AI-powered cancer detection systems — a breakthrough that could revolutionize global healthcare by enabling early and efficient diagnosis.
Speaking about his journey, Dr. Hazarika said, “Medium of education and social status are not barriers if the hard work and dedication is genuine.” Despite limited resources and studying entirely in government institutions, his perseverance led him to this esteemed position.
Previously, he served as an Associate Professor at Manipal University, Bangalore. His work there caught the attention of Italian researchers, who then extended an invitation to collaborate on cutting-edge medical AI research.
His success story is a beacon of hope and inspiration, especially for students from underprivileged backgrounds who aspire to achieve big dreams. “With hard work and determination, any obstacle can be overcome. If I can do it, anyone can,” he affirmed.
Dr. Hazarika’s accomplishment not only enhances India’s global standing in the fields of medicine and technology but also reaffirms that talent knows no borders.
