Delhi: Kejriwal will meet Lt. Governor V.K. Saxena at Raj Niwas at 4:30 p.m. to submit his resignation as Chief Minister, paving the way for Atishi’s appointment as his successor. Atishi will become the new Chief Minister of Delhi following the resignation of incumbent Arvind Kejriwal, according to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Today, AAP chief Kejriwal announced that Atishi will be the new CM during a meeting with his party’s legislators in New Delhi. At 43, Atishi holds 14 portfolios, including finance, education, and revenue. She was in-charge during Kejriwal’s time in jail.
On Friday, the Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal, who announced that he would resign as CM after his release, following six months in jail, where he was detained in connection with alleged irregularities in the liquor policy.
While addressing the party workers, Kejriwal said, “I want to ask the people of Delhi, I want to ask the people of the country whether Kejriwal is honest or not. Until the public makes their decision, I will not sit on the Chief Minister’s chair. Someone from the Aam Aadmi Party will be the CM. Until the elections are held and the people’s decision is clear, I will not consider myself responsible.”
Atishi will be the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi, following Sheila Dikshit of Congress and Sushma Swaraj of BJP.
