Pune: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) carried out raids across 19 locations in Pune as part of an ongoing probe into the 2023 ISIS-linked terror funding case. The operation took place on October 9 and covered residential and commercial premises in Kondhwa, Khadak, Wanavdi, Khadki, and Bhosari.
The raids were conducted in coordination with the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Officials said the searches aimed to trace money flow and identify local support networks connected to the Al Sufa terrorist gang. The case first surfaced last year when two suspects linked to ISIS were arrested.
According to ATS officials, the investigation found that three individuals, identified as Saki, Alam, and Zulfkar Ali Barodawala, had plotted to rob a sari shop owner in Satara in April 2023 to raise funds for terrorist activities. Barodawala, aged 44, is believed to have played a key role in facilitating the gang’s operations.
Investigators are examining whether the accused were involved in recruiting local operatives or organizing logistics for ISIS affiliates. Evidence collected during the raids includes electronic devices, financial records, and communication materials.
The ATS stated that the operation was part of a larger effort to dismantle terror financing networks and prevent extremist groups from establishing a foothold in Maharashtra. The agency confirmed that further questioning of the suspects is underway and more arrests are expected.
