Azad Adhikar Sena Seeks President’s Rule in UP, Cites Breakdown of Law and Order

LUCKNOW: The Azad Adhikar Sena has called for the imposition of President’s Rule in Uttar Pradesh, alleging a complete collapse of law and order in the state. Party president Amitabh Thakur wrote to the President of India, urging immediate constitutional intervention.

Thakur cited two alarming incidents reflecting administrative failure. The first involved the brutal gangrape of a 19-year-old woman in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency, Varanasi. The crime, reported on April 7 by the victim’s mother, named 12 individuals and 11 unidentified attackers. Despite the gravity of the allegations, police initially took no action, prompting public outrage. Only after PM Modi’s visit to Varanasi on April 11 did the case receive attention. Following his stern directives to senior officials, police arrested the 12 named suspects, though the 11 unidentified perpetrators remain at large.

The second incident occurred in Agra’s Etmadpur area on April 12, where members of the Karni Sena brandished prohibited weapons—swords, spears, and firearms—during a rally marking Rana Sanga’s birth anniversary. The display took place in full view of police, who failed to intervene or confiscate the weapons. Thakur questioned how such an armed rally was allowed, hinting at political pressure or administrative complicity.

He further stated that the open display of arms, coupled with derogatory slogans targeting SP MP Ramji Lal Suman for his remarks on Rana Sanga, was deeply troubling. Thakur emphasized that while political dissent is democratic, hate speech and armed processions undermine law and order.

The rally also featured chants of “Jai Shri Ram,” a slogan often associated with the BJP, fueling allegations of indirect political support. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav denounced the Karni Sena as a “fake organization” backed by BJP sympathizers, pledging support for MP Suman and vowing to defend his dignity.

The UP government has yet to respond to these incidents, raising concerns over selective law enforcement and political favoritism. Thakur warned that inaction could set a dangerous precedent, threatening democratic principles and eroding public trust.
