Bidar, Jan. 17: It’s no less than a district superintendent of police who is delighted with Azan, the call to prayers from Masjid. Azan is a euphony to Chennbasavanna Langoti IPS, the SP of Bidar district in Karnataka. Hailing from Chandakavate hamlet of neighbouring Vijayapura district, Chennabasavanna is an awardee of Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation.
He was thrilled with a melodious Azan from a masjid in town, and immediately recorded on his cell phone. He played it before some Ulama to identify the caller, Muazzin. It was from Masjid Noor Khan Taleem, and the caller was Moazzam Ali. The SP called Muazzam Ali to his office and admired him. He not only shook hands but embraced Muazzam Ali, emotionally.
Muazzam Ali is a trader by profession and takes care of the masjid voluntarily. Earlier his father Moulvi Showkat Ali, used to be the Mutawalli of the Masjid and also the city president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. Muazzam’s grandfather Moulvi Khairat Ali is one of the founders of the Jamaat in Bidar. Muazzam is the third generation of the Jamaat cadre.
