Hyderabad: A public announcement to build a Babri Masjid memorial in the Greater Hyderabad region has triggered sharp political reactions. Tehreek Muslim Shabban president Mushtaq Malik revealed the plan during a public meeting held on the thirty third anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition. He said the memorial would include welfare institutions and said the project would be grounded by next December.
Malik, who leads the Telangana Muslim Joint Action Committee, said the decision was taken at the public meeting. He referenced a similar initiative introduced in Murshidabad in West Bengal. He described the debate around the name Babur as political propaganda. He said the Hyderabad memorial would move forward after a formal announcement on timelines and method of construction.
The BJP criticised the move. Party leaders said the plan creates risk for communal harmony. BJP spokesperson NV Subhash said the remarks threaten peace. He called for strict enforcement of law and order. BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said India does not accept any public project linked to Babur. He said Babur’s name represents oppression in historical memory.
The BJP questioned the silence of the Revanth Reddy led Congress government in Telangana. Party leaders said inaction encourages such announcements. They urged the state to prevent tension. The controversy comes as political groups continue to debate the legacy of the Babri dispute even after the Supreme Court’s final judgment.
The Hyderabad development follows a similar step in West Bengal where a suspended TMC MLA laid the foundation stone for a Babri style structure. The repeated announcements have brought the issue back into public conversation. BJP leaders said the ruling state government must address the situation before tensions rise.
