Bangladesh Jamaat Islami (BJI) Questions Bangladesh Poll Results After BNP Claims Victory

Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat e Islami has raised serious questions over the integrity of the election results process, a day after national polls in which the Bangladesh Nationalist Party claimed a sweeping win.

In a public statement, BJI thanked citizens for voting in large numbers in what it described as a peaceful atmosphere. However, it expressed dissatisfaction with how results emerged. The party pointed to candidates from the 11 party alliance narrowly and suspiciously losing in several constituencies. It also flagged repeated inconsistencies and alleged fabrications in unofficial announcements.

Bangladesh Jamaat Islami (BJI) criticised the Election Commission for not publishing voter turnout percentages. It also referred to indications that a section of the administration leaned towards a major party. The party said these factors raise serious concerns about the credibility of the results process.

The statement urged supporters to remain patient and await the official programme of the 11 party alliance. It affirmed that its struggle for justice and a humane Bangladesh will continue, InshaAllah.

Earlier, Tarique Rahman’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party declared victory in Thursday’s landmark election. Local media reported that the BNP secured a two thirds majority. Jamuna TV, citing provisional figures, reported that the BNP and its allies won 211 of 299 seats, while the BJI led alliance secured 70 seats.

The Bangladesh Election Commission has yet to announce the official results. A formal statement is expected soon.
